I think that we have a need to teach medium and forget that the final image is what counts. I am partial to oil paints but for my images almost anything goes. Oils treated like a wayercolor medium, graphite and prisma colors in the oils, tape masking, paint thinner with alcohol as thinner . Some of the things we teach not to use to students but work to create images. Or we teach realism when we know it is an abstraction of real life. Go into the mode of teaching to find by reference the solutions not this is the way it has to be done. Life is real, images of life is an abstraction.
