I assigned my Intro to Art students to make an art history homage using a paper coffee cup. One student wanted to honor Nicole Parish and paint in oil on the cup. She gessoed the cup and the student painted using water soluble oils and liquin and it was dry to the touch in a couple of days. The same paints without liquin dried to the touch after about two weeks on a gessoed stretched canvas.
Thanks for keeping this discussion going. I have a larger number of student artists wanting to paint in oil, and painting is not exactly my expertise.

After discussion of oil paints and speed of use. I had a commission of a nine x nine panel. Took 6 hours off and on from start to finish including clear coat over already dry panel. The panel was wood with a polished shellac sealer.
